The family farm, Anawhenua, has been in the Whittle family since 1934. A few years ago a portion of the original farm was subdivided off, creating the new farm - ‘East Gorge.’ The property has a special place in Chris’ heart as both his father and grandfathers worked and explored the same land. Chris and Holly are both passionate farmers who love their animals, the land, and their unique environment. The Kaweka Range creates many atmospheric moods that make them feel a special closeness to the landscape they live within. They loved the idea of creating a place where others could experience this magic. It’s important to them that their guests leave feeling relaxed, restored, and with a little more love in their hearts for themselves and their country. High Hills Hut is situated on top of a hill, 2300 feet above sea level. The name captures the feel of the hut's location, set high in the hills of Puketitiri, Hawkes Bay. " Kulani Waduge - 23 Jan 2026 5 / 12 " We had the most amazing stay at High Hills Hut and highly reccomend this stay. It has beautiful views, is incredibly clean and tidy, the attention to detail is amazing and we will absolutely be back. This place is such a treasure and we will definitely come back to stay again. " Alani Dalrymple - Mortleman - 08 Jan 2026 6 / 12 " A massive thank you to Holly and Chris, the hosts and owners of the High Hills Hutt. The place was incredible and it really had that cabin vibe, but with the modern amenities to be super comfortable. The drive from Auckland was incredible and, as a car guy, it was really awesome driving through the twisty scenic roads to get to the venue, with plenty of paved parking. The accommodation also came equipped with a tonne of board games and sports equipment, so there is no need to pack any entertainment. Lastly, we want to thank our hosts. Not only were they kind enough to give us more milk, but also toothpaste. We had forgotten to pack toothpaste and the closest grocery store was an hour away, but they were so kind to lend us some from their personal supplies, and they dropped it off to us as well. " Paolo Garcia - 17 Dec 2025 7 / 12 " We really enjoyed the stay, thank you! " shylah gill - 12 Dec 2025 8 / 12 " Very cosy hut with fantastic views of the beautiful countryside. A real retreat.
