About this campground
Haskell Hut offers an authentic winter backcountry experience in the heart of Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument. This small log cabin sits on a hill with beautiful views of Haskell Deadwater, where visitors can enjoy the peaceful sounds and sights of Maine's north woods. The hut is reached by cross-country skiing or snowshoeing approximately 5.5 miles from the north entrance, following a generally gentle old logging road that is typically packed and groomed weekly during the winter season. Inside, the hut features raised wooden sleeping platforms that can accommodate up to 8 people, a wood stove with split firewood provided outside, and limited pots and pans.

Visitors must bring all essentials including sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cook stoves and fuel, food, water filtration, and be prepared to pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles. Pit toilets with toilet paper are available on-site. The hut is accessed via the north entrance, located approximately 5 miles south of North Gate and 1.4 miles south of Haskell Gate.
