About this campground
Former pumping station from around 1870, idyllically located at the foot of the Eilsleben water tower, directly on the Aller. The old pumping station has the charm of an isolated park along with the old water pumping equipment. Three cycling and hiking routes cross the place. Activities: Children's park, cable car, swings, bonfire and barbecue. Cycling and hiking routes through the Aller meadows. Distance to the next village with shops and train station: 1 km. Other aspects: The plant also included four deep wells, two surface water collection ponds, a building for the pumps, and another for the pumping station manager and his family.

The system was constantly operated and maintained by the pump manager. Water was pumped from the pumping station to the water tower reservoir. From this reservoir, high-pressure water was supplied through large cast-iron pipes to the three water cranes used to refuel steam locomotives in Eilsleben. One water crane could dispense 10 m³ of water per minute, and a locomotive could refuel completely in about three minutes. The total water supply from the tower was sufficient for about five to seven locomotives. The system also included a float that closed a valve when the elevated reservoir was completely full, preventing further water entry. There was also an overflow that exited outside at the base of the tower. The tower could also be completely emptied via another valve.
