About this campground
Located in Lewis County near La Grange, Wakonda Lake Campground sits within a 1,054-acre state park that was transformed from former gravel mining operations into a premier recreation area. The campground offers basic, electric, and sewer/electric/water campsites, including walk-in tent sites. Guests have access to six lakes for fishing and boating (idle speed only), with Wakonda and Quartz lakes featuring boat ramps. The park is renowned for its migratory waterfowl viewing, particularly Canada geese, snow geese, mallards, and herons, with some lakes closed seasonally to protect waterfowl habitat. Additional amenities include Missouri's largest natural sand beach, over seven miles of hiking and biking trails through rare sand prairie habitat, and picnic areas. The park's proximity to Highway 61 makes it a convenient stopover between St. Louis and the Iowa border.
