About us: a fascinating historySpital Farm is a newly-converted 16th century farm building which looks out onto the beautiful Vale of Pickering, which houses modern facilities and array of shops on site. Spital Farm Camping started in 2001 as a camping and caravaning site on an ancient monument land which dates back to King Atherson, the first King of England (Anglo Saxon) and now you can camp on this site with panoramic woodland and countryside views, knowing King Atherson has stayed here. The history of the site goes back to 997AD, through Anglo Saxon times, and up to the present day. The site is full of surprises and recent site surveys have exposed the Ancient Monument Hostel dating back to medieval times, which was built on top of a Roman Marching Camp - all is going to be excavated in the future. The Spital Farm Site first came about when an ancient monastery was demolished during the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII (between 1536 and 1541, when Henry VIII disbanded monastic communities in England, Wales and Ireland). Our Grade II listed, sixteenth-century farmhouse, visible as you approach the site, was the original ‘spital’ (from the Hospital of St Mary, Staxton, which belonged to the priory of Bridlington), and the visitor centre is built on what remains of this old monastery. So while celebrating Victorian traditions at our modern centre, you will also be experiencing a site rich in history and stories to tell about England’s past.A warm and friendly welcome awaits you! From vetenary motorhomers Sandra & Allan.Spital InnSpital Inn is part of spital Farm dating back to the 16th century which has been tastefully converted from an original old farm granary and stable buildings. It retains its old charm and character with its original beams, arches and other features such as its open fires.Relax in the traditional bar and try the fine selection of local hand pulled ales and wines to complement your meal in the carvery, served using locally sourced meat and offering a selection of roasts with fresh local farm vegetables. A daily menu is also available. There is a children’s indoor themed Pickwick Bar adjacent to the outdoor seating area overlooking the children’s adventure play area where parents can sit and relax. EventsSpital Farm hosts a myriad of indoor and outdoor events for all ages and all interests. Our event organizers, Primary Events, are constantly working to create new and exciting experiences in addition to the already highly-popular Dickensian-themed craft centre, tea rooms and restaurant.Forthcoming events include regular trade and craft fairs, special interest shows and rallies, fairground and circus attractions, concerts, plus all manner of other great activities which take place on our 20-acre field. We can host or create virtually any event and our facilities are available for corporate and private bookings such as conferences, celebration dinners and weddings. So why not surprise us with your ideas!DirectionsWe are located in the village of Staxton, just off the roundabout on the A64 as you approach Scarborough.
