About this campground
Mud Bay Shelter sits on the east side of Kruzof Island within the Tongass National Forest, approximately 15 miles northwest of Sitka. This remote facility features a 3.5-sided shelter equipped with a wood stove and plywood bunks, providing basic protection from the elements in a wilderness setting. The shelter is accessible by boat, followed by overland travel, making it ideal for those seeking a backcountry experience. The facility offers minimal amenities consistent with its remote location. A pit toilet is available on-site, but campers must bring their own water as potable water is not provided. The shelter's wood stove provides heat, though visitors should be prepared to gather firewood.
