About this campground

Welcome to your campsite...Shelford Nurseries Caravan Park is nestled at the bottom of Shelford Hill in the heart of Trent valley. Despite being only 8 miles from Nottingham's bustling shopping centre, we are a green and pleasant site with the loudest noise usually birdsong. There are many delightful local walks to keep the nature lovers happy as well as any visiting dogs, and on your way home, be sure to stop off in the local village pub for some well deserved refreshment. The local villages also have a good selection of pubs, restaurants and bistros to suite every taste and if you don’t feel like venturing out, there are local take-away restaurants that can deliver. As well as being close to historic Nottingham, we are equally convenient for Newark with its antiques shops and romantic castle ruins, Leicester with its new Space Centre and Lincoln with its majestic Minster. We are a Camping and Caravanning Club Listed Site. The CampsiteThe campsite has 23 pitches in total, including 17 with hook ups and 4 hard standing. The remainder are on flat, well-drained grass. Which is a blessing given the Summer we're having! The site was originally a traditional market garden and still has many fruit trees including apple, damson and plum. It's a very green site with flourishing borders and hedges to protect and encourage wild life. We feed the birds year round there are a couple of very tame pheasants who turn up for their peanuts on a daily basis. In fact the loudest noise is usually birdsong!Site facilitiesThe toilet block includes a free shower in the Ladies and the Gents with a privacy cubical in the ladies. There is a washing up room at the side of the shower block. This is also one location for drinking water the other being in the tent field. The waste water point at the top of the main field. The chemical disposal point is at the rear of the shower block. The ShopOur shop is licensed and stocks a range of wine and beers, ice cream and sweets, treats and those essentials that we all forget. We also have a range of home made pickles, wine made just 10 miles away and local honey. Our small range of gifts include hand stitched leather pouches, and for any archers out there - after all this is Robin Hood country - we have a good selection of hand crafted arrows. The arrows, of a traditional medieval design are fully functional for today's long bow archer, but can also make a very unique gift or souvenir of your stay in Nottingham. The shop will open until 17:00 but we can pop out in an emergency (such as the wine running out!).Local FacilitiesShelford is small quiet and peaceful, a traditional farming village. There is a playing field on East Street with a children's play area and football goal. The Church, St Peter and St Paul is well worth a visit. There is a pub, at the other end of the village, The Earl of Chesterfield, currently only serving drinks. There are many walks surrounding the village in the unspoiled countryside please ask for directions. The surrounding Villages.GunthorpePerfect for a drink or meal overlooking the river with three establishments offering a very different choice. There is also a great walk down by the river past the lock complete with an excellent tea room and free parking.LowdhamPerhaps best known for Lowdham Leisure World for Caravans, Motor Caravans and accessories, David Fullers just past them is also well worth a look and a little further along on the right Lodge Farm sell caravans and accessories. In Lowdham itself there is a small Co-op, a pharmacy, off licence, Post Office and an excellent bookshop.GonalstonJust past Lowdham on the road to Southwell there is the superb, award winning Gonalston Farm Shop, selling superior meat, fish and a wide range of delicious foods and vegetables.Radcliffe on TrentThe nearest 'big' village with pubs restaurants supermarkets and takeaways, the free car parks do not have height barriers.BinghamSlightly bigger than Radcliffe with more choice including a Sainsbury's Local. Once again free parking. The Handicentre in Bingham supply calor gas and they will deliver to site.East BridgfordTwo pubs and two small shops plus a Garden Centre that includes a Yeomans camping outlet, a Craft Shop and a The Works outlet. The nearest large supermarket, a Morrisons superstore, is 6 miles away at Gamston, just off the A52 towards Nottingham.
