Rod and Gun Campground is a small, rustic campground located in the Northern Hills of Black Hills National Forest, adjacent to Little Spearfish Creek. The campground offers seven first-come, first-served campsites in a forested setting with moderate use levels. The campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and hand-pumped drinking water during the operating season. One of the filming locations from the movie Dances with Wolves is located near the campground, adding historical interest to the area. The location along Little Spearfish Creek offers opportunities for fishing and enjoying the natural surroundings.

The campground is accessible via Forest Service Road 222 from Savoy, approximately 2.5 miles east of US Highway 14A. Due to its use as a snowmobile trail in winter, the road to the campground closes December 1 annually and remains closed through mid-May. No reservations are accepted; all sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
