A fully developed boat launch and dock make this a popular destination for boaters and anglers pursuing the reservoir's populations of Kokanee salmon, Kamloops rainbow trout, bull trout, westslope cutthroat trout, and burbot. Sandy beaches and scenic trails provide additional recreation opportunities. Grassy islands divide the internal access roads, and a paved road leads to the boat ramp. The campground is set against a backdrop of mountainous terrain and forested landscapes typical of northwest Montana. Wildlife is common in the area, and visitors should be bear aware. With vault toilets and a 16-day maximum stay limit, Rocky Gorge serves as a base camp for exploring Lake Koocanusa and the surrounding Kootenai National Forest.
