We have developed it to a modern 5 star standard whilst still maintaining its rural atmosphere and feeling of tranquility.Toilet and Shower BlockA clean and modern toilet and shower facility is an essential element of an enjoyable experience so our facility has been designed and maintained with that in mind. The timber clad toilet block has received 5 star grading from ‘Loo of the Year’ organisation and won "baby changing facility of the year for Wales". There are spacious showers, washbasins, and toilets and 2 individual rooms catering for families and disabled with a toilet, shower and basin in each. The final touch of luxury is under floor heating. We have not forgotten the need to wash up either so 4 sinks and drainers are provided under cover. The luxury of under floor heating is just the icing on the cake for our toilet and shower block which has plenty of hot water from our solar panels and high quality fittings. With such facilities it is only natural that they are kept clean and usually have display of flowers to add some colour. All the work we have undertaken has been environmentally sensitive and has helped the site achieve the prestigious awards.Site ShopOur reception office also contains a small shop which sells the essentials such as milk and bread, soft drinks, cakes, sweets for the children and some local produce such as Tregroes Waffles and Tan Y Castell Welshcakes. Our own free range eggs are available when our chickens are in full production and we also have local bacon and sausages when available.A book exchange and DVD library are also in the shop and we ask for a contribution to our choosen charity which is Wales Air Ambulance. If you have forgotten something we keep toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, washing up liquid, cooking oil and other items.Camping items such as pegs and porta poti chemicals are stocked and we sell Calor gas bottles in most sizes and Camping Gaz.The items above are not a complete list so If you want something come and browse and we will always try and help even if it means getting something from our own cupboards. The PitchesIn our 3 separate meadows we have a mixture of well spaced pitches all with 16amp electric hook-up and all are large enough to take big units. Our 46 all weather pitches are mostly level with a few having a slight slope, the surface is 14mm gravel which is comfortable to walk on but the subsurface is larger stone to provide a sound base. Rock pegs (available in the shop) are recomended to ensure a good solid fixing for awnings. 12 of the pitches are fully serviced with water tap and grey waste drain. In addition to the allweather pitches we have 16 grass pitches for tents or Caravans. If the ground is wet we offer rubber mats for the entrance to the tent or awning, they help stop mud being generated and taken inside and also protect the grass so we both win. When you book we try to understand your requirements and reserve an appropriate pitch for you. Examples would be a physical difficulty means pitch in River Meadow is most appropriate, Satalite TV is best on some pitches etc.Walks on SiteThe touring site covers a little over 6 acres of our total 16 acre smallholding. We have opened up a short woodland walk that links to our 5 acre hay meadow. This meadow is managed as an ancient hay meadow encouraging an interesting mix of wild flowers including Orchids and Whorled Caraway, it is mown around the edge to provide comfortable and easy walking. These two areas provide an ideal area for dog walking or a short evening stroll. Another walk is available across the bridge over the river and then up a track which skirts a wooded valley. The more adventurous can cross a style at the top of our Hay Meadow and walk about a mile to an old ruined cottage that has in recent years been used by a Barn Owl. Please be aware the last few hundred yards can be very muddy even in dry weather.Play on siteWe have a large area in the centre of Oakwoods Meadow that is ideal for interactive games with children and parents often seen enjoying some exercise. We do not have any play equipment on site but several well equiped play areas are reasonably close. We do ask that children do respect others on site and do not ride bikes or play with balls close to caravans or tents. Caring for the EnvironmentWe are very proud of our site and want to ensure we reduce the environmental impact and retain the natural features of the woodland, pasture and riverbank.Solar heating in the amenities blockOur amenities block is timber frame and clad with a high level of insulation. Hot water is provided by Solar panels supplemented by a condensing boiler, which is approved by the Carbon Trust. Under-floor heating is also run from the same hot water system. Water consumption is reduced by the installation of low volume dual flush cisterns for all the toilets.Waste water handling systemWaste water is initially treated in a septic tank and the outflow taken to a reedbed for further treatment. The chemical toilet waste is emptied into a different drain and stored in the old septic tank and then taken away by tanker.Recycling on siteWe have an area dedicated to the recycling of glass, paper, cardboard, cans, tins and plastic.Electricity consumption is minimized by the use of low energy bulbs, time-switches and motion sensors to control lighting. All landscaping on site has been carefully planned with the emphasis on the planting of native species of trees and wildflowers.Environmental PolicyRiver View Touring Park has been under our ownership since January 2003. We are aiming to develop a quality touring caravanning and camping park, whilst maintaining the charm of its countryside environment. We, as River View Touring Park, recognise our obligation to comply with all relevant environmental legislation. We further wish to develop the park, our surrounding countryside and woods for the benefit of the natural habitat. Our main environmental impact is through use of electricity, water, generation of household waste and sewage. A further indirect impact is the use of fuel by our visitors, particularly while towing caravans. We recognise these impacts and through our commitment to pollution prevention, will demonstrate continual environmental improvements by:Minimise energy consumption wherever possible and plant trees and bulbs to reduce impact on CO2 emissions.Investigate ways to reduce water consumption.Provide recycling facilities and encourage all visitors to segregate their refuse.Improve the water quality exiting our waste water treatment facility.Pursue permission to allow caravans to be stored on site to reduce car emissions.Train and continually update staff in environmental issues.Inform our visitors of our efforts to encourage them to be more environmentally aware. The policy will be subject to annual review, communicated to all staff and made available to all interested parties.
