Owen Putnam State Forest

Owen Putnam State Forest operates three separate camping areas across its logged and recovering woodland, with only one accessible to standard RVs and trailers near the forest office. The horse camping area remains active with equestrian traffic, while a third remote site requires hiking access and sees occasional party use. Water is available on the property but not at individual campsites, and the muddy horse trails dominate the trail system. Wildlife sightings occur regularly throughout the forest's regenerating timber areas. Campers exploring [places to camp around Spencer](https://thedyrt.com/camping/indiana/near/spencer) will find this state forest suits those comfortable with basic facilities and shared outdoor space with horseback riders.
