About this campground
Ōkārito is an idyllic, remote settlement on the South Island West Coast bounded by ocean, lagoon, native forest, and the snow-capped Southern Alps. Ōkārito attracts those passionate about nature, conservation and enjoying the outdoors; and is especially precious to those in our small community who call this village home. Established by Okarito community on a Department of Conservation managed recreation reserve, the Okarito Campground is much loved by those who discover it. Only a few minutes’ walk from beach and lagoon it has a wonderful location. With a friendly and relaxed vibe, campground amenities are simple yet provide what you need for a comfortable stay. It is the type of campground that is increasingly difficult to find, where the experience of being in a natural environment predominates.
