About this campground
Obsidian Campground offers opportunity to get away from crowds amidst shade of aspens and pines. Located close to Molybdenite Creek and the Little Walker River, the campground provides a quiet base for fishing and hiking. The river is stocked with trout throughout the season. Several interesting trails are accessible from nearby trailheads. The Molybdenite Creek trailhead splits, with one branch heading south into the Hoover Wilderness and another looping north along Wheeler Creek to connect with the trail along the Little Walker River. This can be hiked as a loop from Burt Canyon trailhead, located just west of the campground.

The Emma Lake trailhead leads to a short but steep hike to Emma Lake on the shores of Mount Emma. The campground sits at 7,800 feet elevation and is best suited for small vehicles and tent camping. Each campsite includes a picnic table and campfire ring. There is no garbage service, so visitors must pack out all trash. No potable water is available on-site. A free California Camp Fire Permit issued by CalFire is required for campfire, barbecue, and portable stove use. Dogs must be kept on leash.
