About this campground
Hermit Lake Complex sits 2.4 miles up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail from AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, offering rustic backcountry accommodations at the base of Tuckerman Ravine on Mount Washington. The facility includes five three-sided shelters, three four-sided shelters, and three tent platforms, accommodating up to 86 people total. A caretaker is stationed year-round to assist hikers and provide education about the alpine environment. The site is particularly popular with spring skiers accessing Tuckerman Ravine's famous backcountry skiing terrain, as well as hikers ascending Mount Washington via the Tuckerman Ravine Trail or Lions Head Trail.

The shelters provide majestic views of the Tuckerman Ravine bowl and serve as a strategic base camp for mountaineering activities on the Northeast's highest peak. All sites are first-come, first-served with no advance reservations accepted for individual campers. Official organized youth and camp groups may reserve space in advance. The facility operates under a special use permit managed by the Appalachian Mountain Club in partnership with the White Mountain National Forest.
