On a summer day lounge by the pool and think you are in the Mediterranean - sheltering walls and shrub planting create an oasis of sheltered warmth. Even on a rainy day the children can swim while parents watch from the glass-roofed patio area. Our pool is heated and kept to a constant ambient temperature, from mid May to mid September, weather permittingThe Duck PondTranquility is to be found after a 5 minute walk on the path beside our fields down to the large duck pond. A delightful spot to wander down to for a picnic or evening stroll. Some folks take barbeques down on warm summer evenings. It is our favourite spot for summer Sunday lunchtimes, bbq or picnic and, of course, a bottle or two and no need to drive. The ducks are extremely friendly and will join you, they have even been known to keep watch on sleeping children. The Farm & AnimalsMayrose Farm is run by David and Jane as a home for our pet animals. Grazing the fields and always wanting a nose scratch are Woolly, Harriet and Barny the sheep. Our chickens love to be talked to and provide us with lovely fresh eggs, which we sell on site. Their yolks are so yellow with all the grass they eat. The rabbits and guinea pigs also like a visit especially if carrots are involved. Our resident geese seem to keep everyone in order. Our toddler and children visitors love watching them all and throwing scraps to the chickens. If you want to meet some cheeky characters then say hello to our miniature Shetland ponies, Alfie Whizz and Petal. The Games RoomBooks and DVDs are available to borrow from our games room where there are comfy chairs to relax on. A great place to sit on an early spring day, or cooler autumn afternoon with the sunshine streaming in. We also have some games to borrow, toys for the toddlers, and a pool table for the parents.WalksFrom the bottom of the fields you can get onto the network of lanes around Mayrose Farm, or just stroll round our footpath, rest by the lake and wander back to your cottage or the pool. The CountrysideMayrose Farm is close to the A39 so a brilliant place to stay to visit all of the attractions of Cornwall. The Eden project is only 30mins away, Padstow 30 mins, or why not visit the popular area of Rock and then spend a few hours in Padstow by crossing on the ferry, just a 10 minute delightful journey across the estuary. Views from the ferry are stunning. About 10 minutes drive away is the very beautiful wild areas of Bodmin Moor. Wonderful walks where you hardly meet a soul, and glorious views, try taking an evening stroll and watch the sunset over the sea, also viewing nearly all of Cornwall from Roughtor. I have seen the isle of Lundy from there many times. Just walking along our lanes is a joy, so often full of many wild flowers.Wedding Catering CornwallThe Good Food Catering Company run their business from our premises and cater for weddings all over the South West, particularly in Cornwall. The main attraction has to be seeing the young lobsters growing up ready to be released, but they also have our resident giant lobster, 'Dai the Claw' and Edible and Spider Crabs. They display a wealth of information about lobsters and marine conservation as well as activities for all ages.'Mayrose Recommends'places to visit on a rainy dayLanhydrock HouseMagnificent late Victorian country house with extensive servants' quarters, gardens and wooded estate. 50 rooms are open to visitors, who should allow at least 2 hours to tour the house. The Eden ProjectEden is all about man's relationship with and dependence upon plants. Much of our food, our clothes, our shelter and our medicines come from the plant world. Without plants there would be no oxygen for us to breathe, no life on earth. The Eden Project is a showcase for all the questions and many of the answers. But Eden is not a worthy, over-serious, guilt-ridden place; nor does it preach. It is about education and communication of the major environmental issues of the day, always presented in an engaging, involving, even humorous way.'Mayrose Recommends'activities to make you sleep well at nightSurfing at PolzeathRiding one wave can change your life forever. Gripping your mind it becomes addictive, sometimes obsessive; the ultimate distraction from everyday life. The Camel Trail, Padstow to Bodmin : 1-17 miles of itThis traffic free recreational trail follows the route of an old railway. The trail is ideal for family cycling as it is fairly level all the way and the views of moorland, woodland and estuary are spectacular. The trail is also used by walkers, joggers and horse-riders.'Mayrose Recommends'beautiful gardens to walk aroundLost Gardens of HeliganHeligan, seat of the Tremayne family for more than 400 years, is one of the most mysterious estates in England. At the end of the nineteenth century its thousand acres were at their zenith, but only a few years later bramble and ivy were already drawing a green veil over this "Sleeping Beauty". After decades of neglect, the devastating hurricane of 1990 should have consigned the Lost Gardens of Heligan to a footnote in history.'Mayrose Recommends'good pub lunchesSt Kew InnSituated adjacent to the 15th Century church of St James the Great, the St Kew Inn offers a warm welcome all year round and whatever the weather. In winter, enjoy a pint of real ale straight from the wood in front of our roaring fire. In summer, relax with a refreshing glass of wine in our garden - the largest for miles around.'Mayrose Recommends'fabulous restaurants for a treatRick Steins Seafood RestaurantRick owns and runs four restaurants in the small Cornish fishing village of Padstow with his ex-wife, Jill. He has written 11 cookery books, recorded several cookery series and a couple of one off documentaries. His passion is still for seafood; as he says, 'nothing is more exhilarating than fresh fish simply cooked'. It is the daily bounty of local fishermen of perfectly fresh fish which is the reason for the success of The Seafood Restaurant. He has cooked for many famous people including the Queen and Prince Philip Tony Blair and French President Jacques Chirac.DirectionsComing from the M5 at Exeter take turning onto A30.
