About this campground
Located in the Tongass National Forest on Wrangell Island, Lower Salamander Creek Campground provides a quiet, remote camping experience along Salamander Creek. The campground features 3 separate covered picnic shelters, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, offering protection from Southeast Alaska's frequent rain. A small sandy beach adjacent to one of the shelters provides creek access and swimming opportunities when water levels are adequate. The site is accessed via Forest Roads 6265 and 50050, approximately 23 miles southeast of Wrangell. An outhouse is available, but there is no potable water on-site; campers must treat water from Salamander Creek before use.
