Our barn has a sleeping area for 8 upstairs, with a sitting and dining area below. It has a separate toilet, shower (charge for hot water,) and cooking area all within the building. Heating is from a solid fuel stove (coal and wood extra). Outside there is a barbecue and seating area. The farm has a Tea Garden with all home baking. InsideThe kitchen has a sink with drinking water (hot water available if chosen). You must provide a stove and all utensils (imagine you are camping). The solid fuel stove provides ample heat and acts as a focal point for the evening's reflections on the events of the day. Its warmth enables the barn to be used through out the year. Upstairs there is ample space to sleep 8. Mattresses are provided but don't forget your sleeping bags. There is a shower, toilet and washbasin for your convenience. A camping barn is essentially a stone tent. Scenic views near Keswick Outside Parking space is available for 2 cars. There is a barbeque and outside seating area with mountain and river views. Your walks can start form the doorstep, through woodland, or follow the Woodland Trail, or along the river path. You will find a profusion of birds, including dippers, kingfishers, buzzards and herons. Red squirrels, badgers, hares, deer and otters may be seen in their natural habitats. Bats and owls will join you at dusk when the salmon and trout are rising.Our Keswick self catering accommodation in the Lake District The accommodation has been converted from the old hayloft. It is modern inside, warm and double-glazed. It sleeps up to four people- in a twin bedded room and a sofa bed in the main room. There is ample car parking in the farmyard. It is annually inspected by the E.T.C. and gains 3 stars. This is a non smoking property. Keswick is some six miles away offering a full range of shops, pubs, and restaurants and for entertainment, museums, cinema and theatre. Keswick is the centre for a wide range of outdoor activities such as walking, rambling, pony trekking, cycling and mountain biking. Rock climbing, orienteering, water sports and sailing are readily available while for the more adventurous, ice climbing and skiing are to hand when weather conditions permit.Keswick also offers indoor activities including a leisure pool, a climbing wall, a cinema, theatre and several museums. Three of Lakeland's highest peaks are easily accessible from the farm, Helvellyn, Skiddaw and Blencathra. Many of the lower fells offer equally stunning views and lakeside walks allow a gentler ramble where you may even spy the ospreys.Woodland trail and display The farm is managed in an environmentally friendly way, reflecting the responsibilities and rewards of Stewardship. This benefits both wildlife and visitors. You can see this in action as you walk through Sosgill Wood. A view from the woods The trail begins immediately behind the farmhouse and climbs through the woods. There are two observation points facing north and south and an explanitary sheet shows the distant geology, geography and landscape history. The prize winning trail has seats for the quiet observation of our varied bird life. Copies of the trail leaflet are available free of charge at the Tea Garden. Allow 45 minutes for the trail. Our Woodland Display illustrates the many uses of woodland and shows examples of local craftsmanship.DirectionsWe are located at O.S. map grid reference 316215Nearest railway stations are:Penrith 18 miles, then bus to Threlkeld and a 3 mile walk.ORWindermere 18 miles, then a bus to Thirlmere Dam road end and a 1 mile walk along a lovely wooded footpath.Local taxi firms are most obliging and if there are more than a couple of you travelling it is often cheaper to get a taxi than a bus.
