Lake of the Woods Campground sits at high elevation in Sierra County within Tahoe National Forest, offering approximately 15 free camping spots situated along the shoreline of a small, scenic lake. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table. The lake is popular, especially on weekends, and supports both brown and rainbow trout fishing through regular plantings by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Due to its high elevation location, the campground opens later in spring than lower elevation sites as it takes longer for winter snows to melt and provide road access.
