About this campground

Located at Lake Oroville State Recreation Area in Butte County, this environmental group campground provides a base for exploring one of Northern California's premier outdoor recreation destinations. The park surrounds a massive reservoir created by Oroville Dam, which stands 770 feet above the Feather River streambed. The recreation area encompasses approximately 28,450 acres and offers 167 miles of shoreline when at maximum capacity. The lake is renowned for exceptional fishing, with anglers targeting largemouth and smallmouth bass, chinook salmon, catfish, mackinaw trout, sturgeon, and brown trout.

The park features an extensive trail system for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding through rolling foothills with views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Boating is extremely popular, with multiple launch ramps providing access to the reservoir for powerboating, sailing, and waterskiing. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot, with temperatures reaching the low 100s, while winters are mild with temperatures in the 30s to 50s. Spring brings vibrant wildflower displays and pleasant temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Kelly Ridge Visitor Center features exhibits on dam construction, the State Water Project, and the area's natural and cultural history, with a 47-foot viewing tower offering panoramic views.
