Set in the beautiful rural countryside of Warwickshire, Island Meadow is a small, privately owned, family run park, surrounded by seven acres of secluded land. The park is situated on an island, formed by the River Alne with its mill race and provides a quiet and peaceful holiday setting.Once you have arrived at our park, you will be drawn straight into the tranquil Island Meadow holiday experience, where its time to relax and take in the exquisite English countryside and all it has to offer.There is a natural mill pond and weir which are lined with mature trees, offering great course fishing, free of charge to all guests.All areas of the park are flat and close-mown, making the island a perfect centre for bird watching, walking, cycling or just relaxing.The park offers 3 – star amenities, including disabled facilities, heated toilet and shower block and a well-stocked licensed shop.By taking a short stroll through the Mill Meadow and the churchyard of St.John’s, the marriage place of Shakespeare’s parents, will bring you to the fifteenth century inn, the Kings Head, Aston Cantlow. Here you will find a traditional, recently refurbished inn, offering real ales, bar snacks and fine dining cuisine. (There is no clubhouse or restaurant on site).The village of Aston Cantlow is named after the De Cantilupe family who settled here after the Norman Conquest.Interestingly, in 1086, the Domesday Book valued the Mill at 8 shillings and 5 sticks of eels!Location & ServicesBeing so conveniently situated, as well as Stratford-upon-Avon, other close places of interest include Warwick (with the finest mediaeval castle in England), The Cotswolds, the cathedral city of Worcester, Elgar’s Malvern Hills and the Vale of Evesham. The bustling cities of Birmingham and Oxford, offering commerce attraction such as The National Exhibition Centre and The National Agricultural Centre are also in close proximity.Holiday HomesPrivately owned holiday homes are located around the banks. All are connected to mains services and each is carefully positioned to give the best possible view, without disturbing the surrounding wildlife.Self CateringOverlooking the river, our hire caravans are of a luxury standard. In addition to all mains services, these modern six-berth homes are equipped with colour television, full size cooker, microwave and refrigerator.*TouringWe reserve a two acre area for touring caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents. Each of the spacious 24 pitches is equipped with 10amp electric hook-up.Prior booking during peak periods is essential. There is no additional charge for awning or adjacent pup tent.TentsWe have two dedicated areas for tents. The house has been maintained in good condition because it had been a working farmhouse over the centuries. It was bought by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in 1930 and refurnished in the Tudor style.Ragley Hall – AlcesterThe hall is the ancestral seat of the Marquess of Hertford and is one of the best kept stately homes of England. The House and the 400-acre grounds are seasonally open to the public. The Hall is filled with fine paintings, ceramics and antique furniture. The Great Hall is adorned with stunning Baroque plasterwork by James Gibbs and the Red Saloon remains exactly as it was decorated and furnished by James Wyatt in 1780.Warwick Castle – WarwickBritain’s Greatest Mediaeval Experience and one of the Uk’s top historic attractions, Warwick Castle is also one of the country’s most impressive ancient fortresses.Stratford –upon-AvonStratford is one of England’s most historic and vibrant towns. Each year it welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from all around the world.Charlecote Park – WarwickshireThe mellow brickwork and great chimneys of Charlecote seem to sum up the very essence of Tudor England. There are strong associations with both Queen Elizabeth 1 and Shakespeare, who knew the house well. He is alleged to have been caught poaching the estate deer.Coughton Court – AlcesterCoughton Court’s gardens have been described in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Members Handbook 2003 as ‘breath taking’. The Walled Garden, Bog Garden and walks alongside the River Arrow are also highly praised. The author concludes by noting that a trip to Coughton is ‘truly memorable’.Compton Verney – KinetonAn 18th century mansion designed by Robert Adam, set in over 40 acres of parkland landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Compton Verney was established by Sir Peter Moore in 1993 to present art in accessible ways.Wellesbourne Water Mill – WellesbourneWellesbourne Water Mill is a working mill and tourist attraction situated six mils from the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon.Nickelodeon MuseumPresenting The Mighty Cinema Organ Show and conducted tours of the world famous Nickelodeon Collection of Mechanical Music which includes musical boxes, magic pictures, fairground organs, life sized automated figures and a visit to the cinema in its heyday.Hatton Country World – HattonNestled amongst rolling hills lays one of Warwickshire’s truly hidden gems – Hatton Shopping Village at Hatton Country World. Built in the 1830’s as a model Victorian Farm, the buildings once housed granaries, dovecotes and cows are now home to a new Garden Centre, 20 shops and 2 restaurants. Stroll around Ransons Family Garden Centre, Toffee Shop, The Stables – Antiques and Interiors Centre, Fashion Outlets, Farm Shop and a charming selection of specialist shops that you simply can no longer find on the High Street.Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm – Stratford-upon-AvonEnjoy the unique pleasure of watching hundreds of the world’s most spectacular and colourful butterflies flying around.Royal Shakespeare Theatre – Stratford –upon-AvonOpened in 1878 on land donated by Charles Edward Flower, the original Memorial Theatre was a Victorian gothic building with seating for 711 people. The inaugural performance in the theatre was of Much Ado About Nothing, with Barry Sullivan as Benedick and Helen Faucit as Beatrice.Swan Theatre – Stratford-upon-AvonBuilt in the surviving shell of the 1870 Memorial Theatre (destroyed by fire in 1929) with funds donated by benefactor Frederick Koch, the Swan Theatre opened in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1986.Heritage Motor Museum – BirminghamThe Heritage Motor Centre is home to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, which maintains the largest collection of classic, vintage and veteran British cars in the world.Burton Dassett Hills- WarwickshireBurton Dassett Hills Country Park is a country park in southeastern Warwickshire, England. It was created as a country park in 1971 and is run by Warwickshire County Council. It comprises a group of ironstone hills, which are named after the tiny village of Burton Dassett which is located in the hills. The hills rise to 203m (666 ft) above sea level and are situated half a mile east of the M40 motorway.Hanbury Hall – HanburyCompleted in 1701, this homely William & Mary style house is famed for its beautiful painted ceilings and staircase. It has other fascinating features including an orangery, ice house, pavilions and working mushroom house.Broadway Tower Country Park – BroadwayBuilt on an ancient beacon site, Broadway Tower has a colourful history as – amongst others – home to renowned printing press Sir Thomas Phillips, country retreat for Pre-Raphaelite artists, notably the artist, designer, writer, craftsman and socialist William Morris, location for the studies of the distinguished archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans and farmhouse.
