About this campground
Hutchins Group Campground is a reservation-only facility located in the Bucks Lake Recreation Area of Plumas National Forest at 5,000-foot elevation. The campground features three large group sites, each accommodating up to 24 people and 8 vehicles, with both tent and RV camping options. The campground was severely impacted by the 2021 Dixie Fire, and subsequent timber salvage operations have left the area barren and hot with minimal natural shade. Each group site includes multiple picnic tables, campfire rings with grills, and bear boxes for food storage. A roving campground host is intermittently available.

The campground is within walking distance of Bucks Lake, a 1,820-acre lake offering fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities. The nearby Sandy Point area provides the closest boat ramp, day use facilities, and showers. The Bucks Lake Wilderness and Pacific Crest Trail are easily accessible from the campground. Currently, there is no water available at the campground itself; campers must obtain water from nearby Sandy Point Day Use Area or Haskins Campground. A convenience store with gas, phone, and propane is located within five miles. The campground is operated by American Land & Leisure as a concessionaire for PG&E under Forest Service permit.
