About this campground
Hobo Campground is tucked on the banks of the Lower Kern River in Sequoia National Forest's Lower Kern Canyon, sitting at 2,290 feet elevation. The campground features 33 sites total, including 23 tent-only sites, all shaded by a riparian forest of majestic sycamores, willows, cottonwoods, and alders. The trees provide a dramatic display of yellow, gold, and orange in fall. The close proximity to the Lower Kern River makes this an ideal summer escape from the heat. Whitewater boating is popular on the Lower Kern and requires a free Kern River Use permit from the Kernville Ranger Station. A trail at the northern end connects to Sandy Flat Campground.

The campground is located just north of Miracle Hot Springs, and Remington Hot Springs is approximately one mile west on Old Kern Canyon Road. The Kern River flows higher in late spring and early summer as water is released from Lake Isabella. The river can appear calm but has fast currents beneath the surface. Remains of an old resort can be found in the campground and Miracle Hot Springs area. The campground is reservation-only and unsuitable for trailers due to the 20-22 foot vehicle length restriction.
