About this campground
This charming small town, believed to be the third oldest in the former Mississippi Territory, welcomes visitors to explore its rich history and natural beauty. Located in Audubon Country, the historic downtown square—less than a mile from the parking area—is shaded by enormous live oak trees and features the impressive 1903 courthouse designed by renowned architect James Reily Gordon. Guests can stroll past centuries-old buildings, including the 1834 West Feliciana Railroad office (the first standard gauge railroad in the United States) and the 1819 Bank of the State of Mississippi building, believed to be the oldest banking structure in the state.

The area's cultural heritage is woven throughout its architecture and landscape. Notable early churches dating from the early 1800s to the late 1800s dot the town, while the Beth Israel Cemetery reflects the once-thriving Jewish community. Walking these streets evokes the presence of world-renowned ornithologist John James Audubon, who taught dancing and fencing here in the 1820s, as well as other notable historical figures whose legacies remain embedded in the community. Beyond the square, the surrounding woodlands reveal the natural splendor of the region through quiet creeks, old pathways, forgotten cemeteries, and picturesque hiking trails. The nearby Clark Creek Natural Area features a rugged trail leading to a rare natural wonder—five cascading waterfalls set within lush forest landscape. These outdoor opportunities showcase the beauty of the Tunica Hills and provide memorable experiences for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
