Summerton’s history began in 1830 or so when plantation owners moved a little distance away from the Santee River to escape summer’s humidity. Hence the name ‘Summer-town.’ Summerton and Palmetto Shores RV Resort are still a summer vacation retreat with golf, swimming, hiking, fishing, and camping…but now you can enjoy all of those things year round.
