About this campground

Welcome to MidMountain, a budding arts retreat on the James River. We have two areas available, one for smaller vehicles is a private space up by the small barn with electric ($20 per night) up a small grassy lane from the main driveway, and another gravel area without electric for slightly larger vehicles in the circular drive directly in front of the main house. We do not have water service or trash disposal on site, but there is a county trash and recycling spot on the other side of the bridge by the gas station.

Subject to availability, we may also be able to provide access to additional amenities for another $25 per day, including access to the the main floor kitchen with laundry, second floor bathroom with walk-in shower, hot tub, and kayaks with safety devices. Our collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, working to support arts programming, organizing professional creative development, and seeking community input about interpreting the property’s past, which includes ties to colonization and human bondage. We are an arts collective and project in constant creative growth that believes in the power of people to reclaim space and care for your neighbors. Our mission: Growing a resilient creative community by sharing time and natural space to develop the art of storytelling while literally nourishing our neighbors. We must envision a better future where we celebrate the differences that collectively make us stronger, enabling us to grow that future. We operate from a five-acre arts retreat on the James River in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia that is also hosts several artists in residence. The grounds are being developed into a sustainable food forest with plans for agritourism and mutual aid distribution thanks to a River Buffer restoration partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the James River Association, and the Virginia Department of Forestry.
