Fort Ransom State Park Horse Camp is situated in the scenic and heavily wooded Sheyenne River Valley, designated as one of North Dakota's premier horse parks. The facility features 68 corrals and specialized camping options tailored to equestrian needs, including modern horse campsites with electricity, corral access, and central water hydrants, as well as primitive horse campsites with corrals. The park offers exceptional trail riding with over 20 miles of non-motorized trails in a series of loops and connecting segments. Most trails are multi-use and open for horseback riding, winding through oak woodlands, mixed-grass prairie, and along the Sheyenne River.

The trail system includes a 2.2-mile segment of the North Country National Scenic Trail, as well as numerous other trails ranging from .23 to 2.84 miles that traverse diverse terrain with manageable grades. Equestrian users must clean up hay and manure daily from corrals and use areas, and are required to purchase a horse pass ($6 daily or $30 annually per horse) in addition to park entrance fees. Certified weed-free hay is required and available for purchase at the park. The campground offers modern amenities including flush toilets, showers, and a dump station, with check-in at 4:00 PM and checkout at 3:00 PM.
