About this campground
First Landing State Park Campground is situated within Virginia's most popular state park, combining coastal camping with rich natural and historical significance. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and designated a National Natural Landmark, the park encompasses 2,888 acres of diverse habitats including rare bald cypress swamps, lagoons, and maritime forest. The campground offers over 200 sites accommodating everything from tent camping to large RVs. Electric and water hookup sites are available for RVs up to 20, 30, and 50 feet in length with 20, 30, and 50-amp service. Standard tent sites without hookups provide a more primitive experience.

Group camping areas are available for organized groups. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings with grills. A dump station serves RV campers, though individual sites do not have sewer hookups. Campers enjoy access to 1.5 miles of sandy Chesapeake Bay beach for swimming at your own risk, a boat launch for saltwater fishing and crabbing, and 20 miles of trails through unique coastal ecosystems. The Cape Snack Bar and Gifts sells camping supplies, firewood, ice, and hot food during the season. Modern bathhouses with hot showers, a 24-hour laundry facility, and a playground enhance the camping experience. Note that the park adjoins a military training center, and guests may experience training noise at any time. Reservations are available for specific campsites through the Virginia State Parks system.
