With trails for rural rambles, historic landmarks and easy access to the coast, this spot makes a brilliant base for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and pretty much anyone looking to explore this part of Ceredigion. Far from it: bustling seaside towns like Aberystwyth, grand medieval buildings like Strata Florida Abbey and waterfalls like Devil's Bridge Falls make this area the rich and varied place it is – and all are easily accessed from this Ystrad Meuring site. This off-grid site likes to encourage outdoor living, so barbecues and campfires are welcome (firewood is available at the local shop, 10 minutes away by car). Make sure to bring your bike along to this site: the car-free Ystwyth Trail can be joined about a mile away in the nearby village of Tynygraig (because it runs along the old Great Western rail line, you can pedal full steam ahead over this easy terrain). A local pub is also on hand a 10-minute drive away for drinks, snacks and slap-up meals.
