About this campground

Elk Creek Campground sits just off Highway 21 in a beautiful valley at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountain Range in central Idaho. This intimate campground consists of three individual campsites nestled in a lodgepole pine understory, which can be combined into one group site accommodating up to 40 people. When the group configuration is not reserved, the individual sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Campers park in a general parking area and walk a short distance to their sites. The campground's location near expansive Elk Meadow makes it ideal for bird watching and wildlife viewing, with opportunities to spot moose and elk.

Summer wildflowers are plentiful, and the lodgepole pines provide partial shade. Elk Creek runs nearby, adding to the scenic setting. Summer temperatures are moderate, with average highs around 78 degrees and lows near 40 degrees. Elk Creek serves as an excellent base for exploring the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, with approximately 750 miles of hiking and biking trails crisscrossing the valley and surrounding mountains, including the Idaho Centennial Trail. The Salmon River and numerous lakes and streams offer excellent fishing for rainbow and native westslope cutthroat trout. Stanley and Redfish Lakes are nearby for boating, water skiing, canoeing, and kayaking.
