About this campground

Pigeon Flat Campground offers a peaceful walk-in camping experience along the Stanislaus River in Stanislaus National Forest. Located 24 miles east of Pinecrest on Highway 108, the campground features 7 sites accessible only on foot from a dirt parking area. No vehicles are permitted past the main gate into the camping area, creating a quieter atmosphere. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and metal fire ring. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own or treat water from nearby sources.

At an elevation of approximately 6,000 feet, the area offers access to fishing on the Stanislaus River, hiking trails, and scenic drives including Sonora Pass. The campground is operated by Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort under a special use permit from the Forest Service. The remote location and walk-in nature make Pigeon Flat ideal for campers seeking a more primitive experience while still having designated sites with basic amenities. The 14-day maximum stay and first-come, first-served availability provide flexibility for extended trips during the operating season.
