About this campground

Located just off Big Pines Highway in Angeles National Forest, Peavine Campground provides a scenic mountain retreat at 6,100 feet elevation. The walk-in tent sites are shaded by scattered oak trees and Jeffrey pines, with summer daytime temperatures typically in the low 80s and cool evenings. The campground is within walking distance of Jackson Lake, where powerboating is prohibited, creating a peaceful setting for swimming, canoeing, and fishing for stocked trout and bluegill. The surrounding San Gabriel Mountains offer excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, with chances to spot bobcats, mountain lions, black bears, and Nelson bighorn sheep.

The endangered California condor also inhabits the forest. Hikers can access the Blue Ridge Trail and the legendary Pacific Crest Trail, which runs from Mexico through California, Oregon, and Washington. The nearby Angeles Crest Scenic Byway offers stunning views of diverse landscapes from high desert to pine forests. Operated by Mountain High Resort, the campground requires a Big Pines Pass for parking. The ski resort town of Wrightwood is nearby for restaurants and supplies. Winter visitors enjoy the area for snow play and snowshoeing on nearby slopes and open spaces.
