About this campground
Rio De Los Pinos Campground is a remote backcountry destination in the Carson National Forest, situated at 8,000 feet elevation along the scenic Rio de Los Pinos. The campground offers 4 developed campsites along with additional dispersed camping opportunities, providing flexibility for various camping preferences. Located just west of the New Mexico Game and Fish Recreation Area, the site is prized for its superb river fishing access along the Rio de Los Pinos. The campground sees light usage due to its remote location, meaning campers can typically find available sites without difficulty. The setting features spruce-fir and aspen stands that provide natural shade and a peaceful atmosphere.

Each developed site includes basic amenities, with vault toilets available but no potable water on-site, so visitors must bring their own drinking water. Access requires traveling approximately 15 miles southwest of Antonito, Colorado via US 285, State Road 443, and Forest Road 284. The remote location and lack of turnaround space along the forest road make this campground best suited for smaller RVs and tent campers. The Rio de Los Pinos area offers excellent opportunities for fishing, hiking, and backcountry exploration in a quiet, uncrowded environment near the Colorado-New Mexico border.
