About this campground

Bee Rock Campground sits along the banks of the Rockcastle River within the Bee Rock Recreation Area, offering 25 wooded, first-come, first-served campsites with scenic views of cliffs, rocks, and the river. The campground was fully renovated and reopened in 2022 after severe flooding in 2019, featuring new tent pads and fire rings at all sites. Each site includes a fire ring and lantern post with access to shared picnic tables throughout the campground. The campground is divided between Laurel County and Pulaski County sides, connected by the historic Old Sublimity Bridge. This bridge was built in 1942 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and has been restored for foot travel only.

The campground accommodates both tent campers and small RVs, though it does not offer hookups or pull-through sites. From the campground, visitors can access multiple trails including Rockcastle Connector Trail #401A, Rockcastle Narrows Trail #503, and Bee Rock Loop Trail #529. The Bee Rock Boat Ramp is located within the campground on the Laurel County side, providing access to the Rockcastle River for flat water paddling and fishing. The river is known for good populations of smallmouth bass and rock bass. The campground's name comes from a local legend about wild honeybees that once nested in a hollow area under the nearby cliff.
