Access to Big Meadows requires a commitment to remote travel, located 22 miles east of Georgetown on Wentworth Springs Road and an additional 27 miles northeast on Forest Highway 2.

The campground's elevation and location make it particularly susceptible to seasonal snow, which dictates the opening and closing dates each year. The surrounding area provides access to Hell Hole and French Meadows Reservoirs for boating and fishing, as well as numerous trails for hiking and exploring the national forest. Reservations are available and recommended during the summer season. The campground operates on a seasonal basis, typically from mid-May through mid-October, with exact dates varying based on snowfall and road conditions. No hookups are available at this campground.
