About this campground
Cottonwood Lake Campground is located next to Cottonwood Lake in the Salt River Mountains at an elevation of 7,000 feet, approximately 13 miles southeast of Afton, Wyoming. North Fork Creek runs near the site where pines and aspens offer partial shade. The campground provides 18 total campsites arranged in two loops catering to different types of users. The west loop features 6 sites with hitching rails for horses and three small pipe-rail horse corrals. Water must be carried to the corrals. The east loop allows ATVs because Trail #4203 and other motorized trails begin from the back of the loop, and includes 3 walk-in sites for tent campers.

Site 13 is a reservable group tenting site available through Recreation.gov, while all other sites are single-family sites available first-come, first-served. Cottonwood Lake offers fishing for brook and cutthroat trout and boating for smaller craft, though no boat ramp is available. The area provides access to approximately 5 miles of OHV trails for vehicles less than 50 inches wide, as well as hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. Trail #4202 follows the scenic Cottonwood Creek drainage. The area is located in grizzly bear country.
