About this campground

Sisters Cow Camp is a specialized five-site campground in Deschutes National Forest designed exclusively for equestrian use. Maintained in cooperation with the Central Oregon Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails, this facility offers corrals and direct access to the Metolius Windigo Trail, which runs straight through the campground. The camp is intended for visitors traveling with horses, and out of courtesy and safety, campers without horses are asked to use other nearby campgrounds. The campground provides primitive amenities with vault toilets but no water, so visitors must bring their own. Site spurs can accommodate rigs up to 40 feet.

Access is via Highway 242 (McKenzie Pass Highway) and Forest Road 15, with no fees required. The location offers early season trail access compared to higher elevation areas, though availability is subject to Highway 242's seasonal opening schedule. This horse camp serves moderate use levels and provides a convenient staging area for multi-day trail rides into the surrounding forest. The rustic setting and trail access make it popular with equestrians seeking to explore the central Oregon Cascades.
