About this campground

Farm Well Horse Camp serves as a jumping-off point for equestrians exploring the Fremont National Recreation Trail system in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The campground sits in a forest-mountain setting that affords views of basin and range land as well as vistas of Hager Mountain and Winter Rim. The cone-shaped Hager Mountain dominates the landscape, with its lookout tower visible atop the 7,200-foot pinnacle. The facility includes five campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, one vault toilet, horse corrals, and adequate space for maneuvering horse trailers. Two ponds on-site provide water for stock, though campers must bring their own drinking water.

Wildlife frequently seen in the area includes deer, elk, songbirds, and numerous raptor species. From the trailhead, riders can access the three-mile trail to Hager Mountain Lookout, where panoramic views stretch from the Cascades to the west to Mount Shasta to the south. Continuing beyond the lookout, riders can reach Thompson Reservoir, a popular fishing destination where trout are stocked regularly. The reservoir, created in 1921, provides water for more than 2,700 acres of irrigated land. Motorized use is prohibited on the trails.
