About this campground

Webb Mountain Lookout sits at 5,988 feet elevation atop Webb Mountain in Kootenai National Forest, offering one of the most spectacular panoramic views in northwest Montana. Built in 1959 and actively used for fire detection for over 40 years, this historic 196-square-foot lookout cabin rests on a concrete block basement and features windows on all sides with a surrounding catwalk for 360-degree views of Koocanusa Reservoir, Mount Henry, and the endless mountain peaks of the Northern Rockies. The cabin accommodates up to 5 people with one twin bed and four additional mattresses, along with a wood stove for heat, table, benches, and cleaning supplies.

An outhouse and campfire ring are located at the base of the tower, with firewood provided. The lookout is secured with a combination lock obtained from the Ranger District. The Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail passes directly through Webb Mountain, and through-hikers may visit during the season. The roads are well-maintained and accessible to most vehicles, though the final quarter mile is steep and rocky, requiring good ground clearance. The Koocanusa Area surrounding the lookout provides abundant recreation including boating and fishing on Koocanusa Reservoir, big game hunting, and wilderness hiking. Wildlife includes deer, elk, moose, grizzly and black bears, wolves, and mountain lions.
