About this campground
West Fork Station, also known as West Fork of Rock Creek Cabin, is a historic two-story log cabin available for year-round rental in southwestern Montana's Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Originally used as a Forest Service Guard Station and later as a youth camp, the restored cabin accommodates up to 6 guests and provides a comfortable mountain retreat near the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness. The cabin features electrical lighting and outlets, an oven, refrigerator, baseboard heater, wood stove, and fully equipped kitchen with dishware and utensils for 6 people. A hand pump provides potable water on-site, though the water has heavy mineralization.

The property includes a large parking area suitable for RVs and trailers (no hookups), a vault toilet, picnic table, fire ring, and gated entrance for privacy. The West Fork of Rock Creek flows just behind the cabin, offering excellent trout fishing opportunities. Surrounded by evergreen forest and open meadows, the area is prime wildlife habitat where visitors frequently encounter bighorn sheep, elk, moose, deer, and bears. Recreational opportunities include hiking, fishing in nearby blue ribbon trout streams, wildlife viewing, and winter activities like cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The cabin sits along scenic Skalkaho Highway 38, providing access to Skalkaho Falls and numerous wilderness trailheads. During winter, excessive snowfall may require walking approximately 200 yards from the plowed highway to reach the cabin.
