About this campground

Turkey Point Campground is situated on Melvern Lake on the eastern edge of the Flint Hills of Kansas, America's last expanse of intact tallgrass prairie. The campground offers 43 family campsites, many equipped with water and electric hookups, spread throughout the park with scattered trees providing shade. Two group camps serve larger parties, one with basic amenities and pit privy, the other with 12 pads featuring 50-amp electric and water service. Melvern Lake impounds nearly 7,000 acres of water, providing excellent opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing.

Anglers target walleye, crappie, channel and flathead catfish, and multiple bass species including black, striped, white, and smallmouth. The campground includes a boat ramp, dock, and fish cleaning station for boaters and anglers. Three playgrounds are scattered throughout the area, and a 1-mile trail connects the campground to the day-use area. The surrounding 18,000 acres of land provide extensive hiking and hunting opportunities. Hunters may pursue deer, quail, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, and squirrels throughout the area. The rolling hills on the south side of the lake are wooded, and the Flint Hills landscape showcases big bluestem, switchgrass, and Indian grass prairie remnants.
