About this campground

Loafer Creek Horse Campground sits within Lake Oroville State Recreation Area on the south side of the lake, providing a dedicated facility for equestrian campers. The campground features 15 campsites, each designed to accommodate two horses with individual tethering and feeding stations. Amenities include a horse washing station, accessible restroom facilities, and a warm-up area. The location offers direct access to an extensive trail system with easy to moderate single track trails, including a scenic 17.5-mile loop that starts and ends at the campground.

Lake Oroville State Recreation Area encompasses 28,450 acres surrounding the lake created by the tallest earth-filled dam in the United States at 770 feet above the Feather River streambed. The park offers diverse outdoor recreation including boating, fishing, swimming, and extensive trail networks for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The area features Mediterranean-type climate with warm to hot summers and cool winters. Dogs are allowed in the campground but restricted from trails and day-use areas. An RV dump station is available between the campground and entrance station.
