About this campground
Cartwright Ridge Campground is perched on the north shore of Sage Hen Reservoir in the Boise National Forest at an elevation of 4,800 feet. The campground is one of five camping areas surrounding the scenic reservoir, offering a beautiful forest setting among towering Ponderosa pine, Engelmann spruce, Douglas fir and grand fir. Most sites feature plentiful shade and some offer partial lake views. The reservoir provides excellent opportunities for boating, canoeing, and rainbow trout fishing, with a boat ramp and dock located within the campground.

The Sage Hen Reservoir Trail, a 4-mile loop around the lake, offers great fishing spots, beautiful viewpoints and abundant wildlife watching opportunities. Summer temperatures range from 80-90 degrees during the day to crisp, cool nights. The area provides access to extensive trail systems including the Sage Hen and KYAOTT ATV Trail Systems, offering more than 35 miles of trails for off-road vehicles and motorcycles, though hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders can also enjoy these routes. Local wildlife includes deer, elk, black bear, goshawk, woodpeckers and boreal owls. The area also features a variety of berries and mushrooms throughout the season.
