About this campground
Black Fox Campground is a remote nine-site campground nestled in a spruce forest along the South Fork Rapid Creek on the Mystic Ranger District of Black Hills National Forest. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available, the campground offers a quiet, secluded experience with light usage throughout the season. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own. Each site includes a fire pit and table. The Black Fox Botanical Area is adjacent to the campground, offering opportunities for nature observation and botanical study.

The area is particularly popular on weekends and provides access to a snowmobile trail with a warming hut during winter months. Located approximately eight miles west of Rochford on Forest Road 231, Black Fox requires travel on forest roads to access this remote location. Peak season camping costs $19 per night, with off-season camping available at no charge. Roads are closed to wheeled vehicles from December 15 through March 31 to accommodate snowmobile use.
