About this campground

Louis Lake Campground is a small, primitive campground with nine campsites situated around Louis Lake at 8,550 feet elevation in Shoshone National Forest. The campground sits at the outlet of Louis Creek, with the marshy inlet area providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Each campsite includes a picnic table and cook grate, with bear boxes available for required food storage in this grizzly bear country. The campground offers vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own or treat water from the lake. A nearby boat ramp at Louis Lake Boating and Picnic Site provides lake access for non-motorized boating and fishing.

Louis Lake Lodge, located nearby, offers boat and horse rentals. Trails from the campground provide access to the Washakie Wilderness and a multitude of recreational mountain lakes, making this an excellent base camp for backpacking and day hiking. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 16-day stay limit and accepts only cash or check for the nightly fee.
