About this campground

Troutdale Campground is a remote, no-fee campground located deep in the Boise National Forest along the Middle Fork Boise River. Accessed via approximately 33 miles of Forest Road 268 from Highway 21 at Arrowrock Reservoir, this primitive campground offers 5 first-come, first-served campsites in a scenic ponderosa pine forest setting. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table, and a vault toilet is available for campers. The campground provides an excellent base for fishing in the Middle Fork Boise River, hunting during season, and exploring the surrounding national forest.

The remote location and lack of fees make it popular with campers seeking solitude and a true backcountry experience. Campers should come prepared with their own water supply and be ready to pack out all trash, as no services are provided. Weather is typically favorable from mid-May through late September, though the long access road and high elevation mean snow can close the area well into spring and return early in fall. The campground is easily accessible by car during the summer season, making it suitable for both tent campers and smaller RVs willing to navigate the forest road.
