Two Mile Prairie Tract Oxbow Primitive Camp Zone Paddle in Withlacoochee State Forest

The Withlacoochee River, designated as an Outstanding Florida Water, meanders through this diverse forest landscape featuring open pine sand hills, dense woodlands, and canopied trails. The area supports abundant wildlife including bald eagles, fox squirrels, gopher tortoises, white-tailed deer, and turkeys. Tree species include slash pine, longleaf pine, cypress, maple, southern magnolia, and various oaks, with colorful wildflowers blooming in autumn. This is a true primitive camping experience with minimal guaranteed amenities. Some areas may have a fire ring or picnic table, but campers should come prepared for a completely self-sufficient stay. No potable water is available, though visitors may cache water prior to arrival. Only cooking fires are permitted. The site accommodates up to 8 people and requires advance reservations through the Florida State Forest system. Activities include paddling, hiking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, fishing, and nature study.
