About this campground
Kalama Horse Camp is located just outside the west boundary of Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest at 2,000 feet elevation. The campground is specifically designed to accommodate equestrian users and features 27 sites total: 16 reservable equestrian sites with corrals, 10 first-come, first-served standard non-equestrian sites, and one host site. Most equestrian sites feature wood corrals with varying configurations, and some include metal pipe corrals. Driveways range from 20 to 70 feet in length, with many pull-through sites that can accommodate 2-3 trailers.

The campground loop trail provides easy access to the main trailhead, which connects to Toutle Trail #238, Cinnamon Trail #204, and Fossil Trail #242. Over 50 miles of trails and closed roads are available from the campground for horseback riding, hiking, and biking. A trailhead parking area at the east end of the campground provides additional parking for day use. Horse manure bins are distributed throughout the camp. The campground does not provide potable water; water available on-site is suitable for horses only. Vault toilets are provided. During shoulder season (early spring and late fall), there is no garbage service and campers must pack out all trash. Certified weed-free feed is required for all horses. The facility is managed by ExplorUS and reservations can be made through Recreation.gov.
