About this campground

Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park River Campground sits in a 400-acre park along the tranquil Van Duzen River, 20 miles southeast of Eureka. The campground offers 28 sites set between Highway 36 and the river, with several sites providing river frontage. Ten sites are tent-only, while the remaining sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 24 feet, though many have smaller parking areas. The park's old-growth redwood forest provides a scenic backdrop for camping and recreation. In summer months, visitors enjoy swimming and fishing in the Van Duzen River, with steelhead and salmon runs occurring in fall and winter.

The park features 4.5 miles of hiking trails, including access to the impressive Cheatham Grove, a stand of old-growth redwoods that served as a filming location for Return of the Jedi. The visitor center offers exhibits and educational displays. The campground includes a paved loop suitable for family bike riding, restrooms with flush toilets and coin-operated hot showers, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring. A group camp is also available by calling the park directly. While the park provides a secluded redwood experience, campers should note that Highway 36 runs adjacent to the campground, and traffic noise can be noticeable at some sites.
