About this campground
Canyon Creek Campground is one of four developed campgrounds situated along State Highway 55 between Banks and Smiths Ferry, positioned in a scenic canyon above the highway at an elevation of 4,000 feet. The campground is set in a mixed forest of Ponderosa and lodgepole pines that provide ample shade throughout most of the site. Summer days are warm, typically reaching 80-90 degrees, with cooler nights providing comfortable sleeping conditions. The campground's location makes it a popular choice for whitewater enthusiasts, as the North Fork Payette River flows alongside the highway and is renowned for its rafting and kayaking opportunities.

The annual Payette Whitewater Roundup is held each July along various sections of the river. Anglers will find good to excellent fishing for whitefish and rainbow trout in the river. The small campground offers 6 campsites on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Basic amenities include vault toilets, though campers should note that potable water is not available and must be brought in. The campground operates as a fee area with payment via cash or check at the entrance.
