About this campground
Cuchilla Campground is a small, rustic camping destination operated by the Carson National Forest, located at 7,800 feet elevation along State Highway 150 (also known as Highway 230) on the route to Taos Ski Valley. The campground is part of the scenic Enchanted Circle Byway and offers three developed campsites nestled among tall spruce-fir and aspen trees along the Rio Hondo. This free, first-come, first-served campground can accommodate trailers and RVs up to 22 feet in length. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. A vault toilet is available on-site, but the campground does not provide potable water.

The Rio Hondo flows along the campground, providing scenic beauty and fishing opportunities, though the water is not recommended for drinking without treatment. The campground serves as a convenient base for exploring numerous hiking trails in the area. The Yerba Canyon Trail is just a short walk from the campground, while other nearby trails include Manzanita Canyon, Italianos Canyon, Gavilan Canyon, Wheeler Peak/Bull of the Woods, and Williams Lake trails. Trailheads for the Columbine Hondo Wilderness Study Area are located several miles northeast on the highway. The campground is situated 13 miles north of Taos and approximately 4.9 miles west of Taos Ski Valley.
